Gemstone Scintillation is the term for the flashes of light that are reflected off the facets of a gemstone as it moves. It is the practice of cutting and crafting gemstones in certain ways to enhance their ability to refract and reflect light, and therefore increase their luster.
Brilliant cuts are ideal for giving a gem the most sparkle and brilliance possible. Brilliant cuts include triangular and kite-shaped facets that spread outward from the table of the gem. The more light that enters down through the crown and table, reflects off the pavilion facets, bounces around, and exits back out the top, the better and more brilliant the gemstone will be.
